MNDCC 225/6 (45 overs)
Hull Zingari 2nds 228/3 (42.4 overs)
Hull Zingari 2nds won by 7 wickets
MND slipped to their second defeat of the season on Saturday at the hands of an experienced Hull Zingari side. The home side won the toss and elected to field on a used surface, but things didn’t go to plan for them initially as the MND innings got off to a flyer, reaching 33 before Ruben Syrett sliced a drive and was caught at gulley. Skipper Ricky Woodmansey has had a very consistent start to the season and was looking set for a big score until he was adjudged LBW for 45. Harvey Dixon hit a couple of boundaries before being bowled to leave MND 101-3. Tom Walgate then joined Jonny Addy and the pair first consolidated, then accelerated to add 111 for the 4th wicket. Addy batted with confidence throughout his innings of 77, and was unfortunate to keep finding fielders with his well-timed stroke play. Walgate made 52, but when he fell soon after Addy the MND innings faltered slightly to finish on 225-6.
Jack Riby produced a beautiful delivery in his first over to remove Rawlinson, then trapped Wilkinson LBW to reduce Zingari to 24-2. Riby and Col Suggitt again bowled beautifully with the new ball, restricting the Zingari scoring to the point where they had only reached 66-2 after 24 overs. But the experienced Watkin and Russell knew that wickets in hand were crucial and they put their foot on the gas against change bowlers Shaun Tate and Kieran Gray. The MND fielding was put under pressure in this period and did not hold up well as both batsmen were given lives with dropped chances. Mike Anderson did get the breakthrough for MND, trapping Watkin LBW for 70 but Alex Dale saw Zingari home with a rapid 46* to accompany Russell’s 85*.
This week’s Man of the Match was Jonny Addy for his elegant 77. MND will look to bounce back against Cottingham 2nds next Saturday before taking on Ackworth on Sunday in Round 3 of the Voneus Village Cup.
